Can I Melt Almond Bark in a Crock Pot

I'1000 upward to my eyeballs in holiday baking at the moment, and much of it seems to involve melted chocolate of some sort. I often demand to drizzle, dip, or pour melted chocolate when I'm making candies and cookies. I normally melt blistering chips (chocolate, vanilla, peanut butter, etc.). The tricky part is keeping it melted and a thin consistency for an extended time.

Pinterest made my chocolate melting life forevermore easier when information technology lead me to an awesome tip from Stacey at SouthernBite.com. To keep melted chocolate at a good candy dipping consistency, she suggested inserting a bowl of melted chocolate into a hot water bath in a slow cooker. Merely vivid, if you ask me.

I tried a similar version of Stacey's play a trick on yesterday when I was melting several different kinds of baking chips to use in unlike flavors of candy bark. I hope you don't recollect I'm existence overly dramatic in saying that it was life irresolute. Oh my, did this make my candy making Then MUCH EASIER. No more rushing to get the chore done before the bowl of melted chocolate hardened. It kept a thin, melted consistency for several hours while I worked, and information technology never overheated. Yay! Here'due south what I did.

How to melt chocolate chips (and other baking chips) in a tiresome cooker and maintain a perfect melted consistency.

  1. Put the baking chips (or other melting chocolate) in a bowl or jars and set up them inside the deadening cooker. I used pint mason jars, because they are alpine and narrow enough that I could fit several in my deadening cooker at ane time. You can apply wider mouth jars or any heat tolerant bowl that will fit inside your slow cooker.
  2. Add together hot h2o to the deadening cooker approx. half mode upwards the sides of the jars. WARNING: be careful not to get whatever water within the jars. Water will make the melted chocolate seize & thicken.
  3. Plough the deadening cooker on high. Don't embrace information technology--you don't want moisture to form inside the lid and drop down into the chocolate. Subsequently 30 minutes, stir the fries (I used long iced tea spoons). My chips were soft and completely melted after 30 minutes; nonetheless, ho-hum cookers can vary, and so yours may demand to heat more or less fourth dimension. Once the chips are all melted, lower the slow cooker heat to the low or warm setting. (If yous want to speed up the melting, yous tin can zap the jars in the microwave in 20 second intervals, stopping and stirring each time, but until the chips all cook in when stirred. And so transfer to the slow cooker.)
  4. That's it! Now your melted chocolate will keep its sparse dipping, drizzling consistency for at least 2-3 hours. As yous're using the melted chocolate, if you discover that you lot need more than, stir in more baking fries; they will go along melting into the mixture. I refilled my jars several times as I worked.

Like shooting fish in a barrel and foolproof! This method is so easy and is a foolproof way to avert overcooking the melted chocolate while keeping information technology at the perfect consistency for dipping and drizzling. I removed the jars from the tedious cooker every bit I needed them, wiped the h2o off with a towel, and prepare them next to where I was working. I returned the jars to the wearisome cooker when I wasn't working with them.

  • WARNING: When you lot lift private jars out of the slow cooker to use them, be careful non to drip water into the other jars--h2o will ruin the melted chocolate.

Dip, drizzle & pour. I used a spoon for drizzling melted chocolate onto my popcorn party mix. For my candy bark, I poured the melted chocolate direct from the jar into cookie cutters I was using for molds (see Cookie Cutter Chocolate Bark).   For dunking bigger items like cookies, a bowl will work ameliorate than a jar for melting the chocolate.

Cleanup is a breeze! When I was finished, I used a safety spatula to scrape out every bit much of the remaining melted chocolate in the jars as possible. The jars went into the dishwasher; I poured out the water from the boring cooker and dried it with a towel. Done!

ii easy means to decorate with melted chocolate:

ane. Add together melted chocolate to plastic squeeze bottles for an easy, tidy way to add together drizzles or designs to cookies, candy, apples, or cakes. To keep the chocolate melted for an extended time, set the clasp bottles in a jar of hot h2o, and place the jar in a slow cooker h2o bath every bit described above. The jars continue the clasp bottles from tipping over. A do good of this method is that you don't accept to worry nearly water getting inside these squeeze bottles as you pull them in and out of the slow cooker.

2. Utilise a Decorating Pen to easily add chocolate drizzles and decorations. Similar to the squeeze bottles to a higher place, you can be precise and tidy with this. What I love the most nigh this pen is how easy it is to make full. Put the pen tip in a jar of melted chocolate (kept warm in the slow cooker), and pull the stop of the rod; the chocolate gets sucked upwards into the tube. All you practise is squeeze to write and drizzle with information technology. This is then much easier and tidier than using pastry bags. It doesn't hold a lot, but it'due south then easy to return to the jar of melted chocolate and refill it, every bit needed. Clean up is a breeze, as well-- detach it and put information technology in the dishwasher. I love this gizmo.
